I use a systematic approach of intensive mini lessons as an attempt to remediate reading, writing, and spelling deficiencies and define students’ strengths (kinder-6th grade level).   Reading, writing, and spelling are primarily addressed with the Orton-Gillingham model originating from the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Dallas.  I do supplement as well.  I received my training through an IMSLEC (International International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council) accredited training center in Wichita, KS and retraining at Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Dallas, TX.  Ongoing assessments will be used, and materials will be provided.

Training for Academic Language plus Dyslexia Therapy Licensure requires a master’s degree plus 700 hours of internship, 200 hours of hands-on instruction at the graduate level, 10 demonstration videos, many assignments based on the Orton-Gillingham approach (the science of reading, writing, and spelling), a national exam, and application for licensure to the state of Texas.

I am housed on a school/church campus at the Old Ampitheature. Academic Language Therapy/Dyslexia Therapy sessions are only offered at flat rates, not hourly rates.  Rates for homeschool students are $200/month at 2X week average and $300/month at 3X week average (see contract) in a group of no more than three students.   3X/week for 1-2 years is the typical remediation intensity and time period.

Introduction

Hello, my name is Julie Nichols.  I am a privately-contracted Academic Language Therapist/Dyselexia Therpist on a private school campus.  My office is located on the Northeast side of San Antonio (Selma) near the Forum and Retama Race Park off of Evans Road.  Although I primarily serve students on a school campus, and I also provide different interventions to students there, I am opening up Academic Language Therapy/Dyslexia Therapy to the homseschool community three mornings a week to help balance my caseload.  Although a diagnosis is not required, screening assessments are completed at first with diagnostic testing referred out later to a diagnostcian if needed.
